AGM awards

The Under 9 team came 5th in our league, scoring over 50 goals.

Johan Warensjo scored 19 goals, just beating Tom Head to the Golden Boot award this year.

We came 8th out of 40 teams in the U9 sportsmanship league.

The team have all improved greatly this year and performed very well towards the end of the season.

We have some new players who have recently joined the team and we hope to have 15 players next season.

We would like to thanks our parents who support us and help at matches and training.

The Parents’ Player of the Year award goes to someone who parents say has improved in matches since the start of the year and has made a significant contribution to the team’s performance this year. The Parents’ award goes to Ewan Chapman.

The Coaches thought hard about their award. There are lots of contenders: we could easily give the award to several players for overall performance, most goals scored, best teamwork, most passionate etc.

We decided to give it to the player who has improved the most over the last year, someone who works hard in training and now makes a real contribution in matches, Harry Freeman.

Wanborough 2 - Shaw A 3

The U9s saved their best 'til last with a super performance against
third place Shaw A. Wanborough led twice through a goal from Tom and
another o.g. Unfortunately Shaw took a couple of chances and managed to
nick the three points. This shows how much all the boys have improved
since our 6-0 loss to Shaw at the start of the season.

Our final league position of 5th is very respectable!

Sunday, April 27, 2008

Wanborough 3 Penhill 0 - 5th place!

A battling performance today from the U9s to beat Penhill 3-0 (Johan,
Tom and an o.g.) This was a much much better effort than the loss to
Penhill at home earlier in the season. The defence did especially well
with Samuel and Ewan jointly collecting MoM and Harry getting the
Captain's MoM.

Results elsewhere (South Cerney beat Chiseldon!) mean that we are
guaranteed to finish 5th in our league. Fantastic.

Reminder that k.o. tomorrow is 6.15pm at home vs Shaw (4th in the table)
- meet at 6.00pm and we will be taking a team photo before the match.

Saturday, April 26, 2008

Wanborough 7 South Cerney 1

A great start to our three match weekend. A solid performance with goals
from Johan, Charlie, Tom and Jay (plus an o.g.). Shay was MoM for his
strongest game to date in midfield. Tom chose Charlie as MoM for his
hard work in central defence & midfield.

Result and upcoming training & match...

An excellent first half today resulted in a 4-0 lead for Wanborough,
good passing and solid defending meant we controlled the match. A bit of
a loss of concentration and energy in the second half saw Pewsham take
the advantage and score a couple of deserved goals. Final score 5-2 to
Wanborough with goals from Tom (hat-trick), Johan and Charlie.

Training tomorrow with Tony and Joe. We may cancel at short notice if
the weather is particularly poor as forecast.

Next week we are at home again in another "should win" match against
South Cerney (Per Axel in charge, 1025 meet for 1045 ko) - please advise
availability ASAP.

Cirencester 2 - 0 Wanborough

A combination of illness, accident and mother's day meant we could only
field 5 players today. So, after conceeding to Cirencester (official
result 2-0), we borrowed a couple of players and played a friendly. It
was a great game - lots of action, good attacking and defending from
both sides. It finished 4-3 to a good Cirencester team. It showed how
much we have improved since our loss to Cirencester at the start of the
season. Jonathon was MoM for playing well in goal for the second half,
especially his kicking.

No training Monday. Match next week at home to Pewsham (watch for email)

Info about upcoming fixtures etc

No match this Sunday.

Training as normal on Monday at Liden.

Next match away to Cirencester Town - watch out for email notification.
It should be a morning match. As last weeks match was postponed it is
likely to be same team as due to play last week unless other players are
unavailable. Can you please let me know if you are unavailable to play
on Sunday.

Note we have brought forward the home match with Pewsham from May to the
9th March. You can check fixture list via www.wanboroughwasps.com

We will struggle to reschedule our match against Shaw on a Sunday and
may need to play on a Saturday or a weekday night.

Sunday 17th

At home to Shaw (3 points above us in the table - a 6 pointer!). Meet at
school at 10.25 (pitch seems ok). Week off for Jonathon and Will.

Sunday, February 10, 2008

AK 4 - Wanborough 10

A great performance from the whole team again today. 4 goals from Johan
(Captains MoM), 2 from Tom H, and one each for Charlie, Samuel, Jay and
Jonathon. Special mention for Samuel's edge-of-the-box-curler into the
net and Tom's dribble and side footed goal that earned him Coaches MoM.
As last week, lots of passing created the opportunities. The team did
well to keep their heads up when AK started to come back and after
weathering the storm we finshed the game off well.

16 goals in 3 games means we will have to double our "January" target to
20!! A win next week will hit our target of 9 points.

Training on Monday with Per-Axel and Joe Smith. No training in half term
week.

We are at home to Shaw next week (pitch permitting) - watch out for the
email with details.

Sunday 10th

Chiseldon 1 Wanborough 4

Well done to the whole team today for a much better performance than
last week. The whole team gets Man of the Match for passing, running
hard and tackling. Great goals from Johan, Charlie with Harry and
Jonathon getting their first goals this year. Charlie took Captains MoM
for a long range goal.

Thursday, January 31, 2008

Sunday 3rd

2pm k.o. at Chiseldon (anyone got an orange ball in case it snows?!)

Sunday, January 6, 2008

January target

After our New Year warm-up match today, we have 4 matches coming up in 4
weeks - all against teams below us in the league. Our aim is to get at
least 7 points (and hopefully 9 points) from these matches out of a
possible 12. We also aim to score at least 10 goals. This will ensure we
keep the good league position we deserve.

Stratton 5 - Wan 1

Wanborough played well today, a couple of late goals (scored downhill
against tired legs) made the score line look worse than it really was.
Well done especially to Jay (poached another good goal) and Harry
(aggressive tackling).
