Wanborough 5 - AK 4

A thrilling match today with goals from Johan (2), Tom H (2) and Jay,
and near misses from Jonathon and Arthur. Well done to the whole team
who went 4-1 up as a result of good defending and passing. AK did well
to come back to 4-4 before Johan scored in the last minute to ensure
Wanborough took all three points.

Friendly Match Report

A great game against Stratton Juniors today. Lots of goals and exciting
football from both teams. We scored some good goals (Johan, Tom and
Charlie), but the big learning point for Wanborough is to ensure the
midfielders get back to help the defenders. We lost a couple of goals
when it was 4 attackers against a lone defender and the goalie and
everyone else standing and watching. Overall we need a bit more effort
and players wanting the ball. We are hoping to play another friendly
against Stratton later in the season.
Captains MoM: Tom H for good work and smashing goal.
Coaches MoM: Johan for working the hardest and deserved goals.

Wanborough 1 - 1 Marlborough

Marlborough played much better than might be expected from their league
position in an exciting match. A solid defence meant Wanborough had few
clear chances. Johan scored just before half time to take Wanborough
into the break 1-0 up. Marlborough broke free and scored in the second
half to tie the game and despite some thrilling end to end football
neither team manged to score another goal. Man of the match for
Wanborough was Samuel playing in goal. Some remarkable saves including
one tipped over the bar from a well taken free kick earnt him both the
Captain's and Coaches' MoM awards.
Positives: Good possession and challenging for the ball. Newer players
making a good contribution.
Learning points: We still need to see much more passing the ball. No-one
should ever be standing and watching on the pitch (even the goalie!)

South Cerney 4 - Wanborough 3

Wanborough created more chances in this game than they have done all
season! Charlie, Johan and Tom all scored well taken goals. South
Cerny's goalkeeper kept them in the match with some good saves and big
kicks. South Cerney benefited from an unlucky own goal and an
unfortunate penalty. The last ten minutes saw Wanborough having at
least 10 good chances and just not being able to finish. Everyone tried
hard and there were some good passes and crosses.
Well done team (we'll be practising shooting on target at the next
training session!). Man of the Match was George for subduing their
dangerous forward and Ewan's Captain's man of the Match went to Johan
for another good performance.

selected will be those who show the best effort, attitude and behaviour
at training in the next two weeks. Full k.o. details etc nearer the time.

Home defeat to Cirencester

A first minute penalty for handball and a soft goal in the first seconds
of the second half gave Cirencester far too much confidence and they
ended up winning 9-nil. We can learn a lot from their game - they
challenged for every ball, passed superbly and had many shots on target.
Captain's man of the match was Ewan who made some good saves and kept
his head up despite the goals. William got the man of the match award
for smiling through a tough first game
